Was ist?
A very quick snack that costs ~2 bucks to make and yields plenty of good food. Definately vegitarian friendly, can be vegan friendly too.

Implements of cooking

The cooking portion
Basic strategy is to lightly fry the beans in oil, toss in garlic and help it infuse the flavor, and serve hot over rice. My inspiration is that Gallo Pinto takes a lot longer to cook...

Take your frying pan, lay a thin layer of oil across it, and set the pan to medium high. Throw in the kidney beans, and make sure to stir/pry them so they don't stick to the pan and burn. Throw in the garlic after about 2 minutes - the garlic will take less time to cook through. As the beans start to fry, they'll pop similarly to corn - once this starts to happen and you get a semi-crispy texture on the beans you know your beans are done.

Combine rice, beans and garlic and serve. If you want to use cheese, make sure and put it on top while the food is still hot, so it'll melt into the rice and beans.

The total cook time on this dish should be somewhere from 5-10 minutes, maybe another 2 for prep (can opening, slicing garlic). It's cheap, fast and damn tasty.

Serving Suggestions
I make this primarily as a snack, but I suppose you could serve this with some chicken if you're so inclined, or... hm, perhaps a stir fry?
